Transformational and Transitional Spaces for Citizens and Charter One

Citizens Bank/Charter One | Corporate Offices | Chicago, Illinois

To establish a Chicago presence, Citizens Bank, leased the 29th floor of a high rise in downtown Chicago’s Wacker Drive. The CEO’s vision of the project was to integrate senior management with junior staff and all employees should have natural light and views. In that spirit the project encourages lively interaction, openness and gathering. This function and egalitarian model reinforces the culture of Citizens Bank.

The plan places offices in pods perpendicular to the window wall and separated by banks of workstations. The offices have glass facing work stations to encourage staff interaction. With only a few Senior and Executive Vice Presidents at the window, views to the Chicago skyline are available for those seated in all workstations. To further encourage interaction, conference rooms are ganged in two areas: at the end of the space facing the lake and at the lobby, where upon stepping off the elevator, full views are revealed and a gathering space created.
