The Brown University Center of Information Technology (CIT) was working out of a 20 year old data center which was in urgent need of upgrade to meet the current campus computing needs. A long term master plan was required to map out growth over a ten year period. A vital part of the need was to devise a plan that could be implemented in affordable steps and be done while the data center remained fully operational.

In a study to upgrade the power and cooling systems in an outdated operating data center facing serious expansion challenges, Integrated Design Group, Inc. worked closely with the Brown University Computing and Information Services Group to create a staged master plan for the reconfiguration of rack, people and infrastructure space, which resulted in a detailed 10 year road map to obtain the universities goals for a more robust and scalable data center. The project was successfully completed due to a team effort that required the commitment of all participants.
