18,000 SF Raised Floor - LEED Silver Certified
Services: Project Management, Architecture, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

The proliferation of L.L. Bean’s global e-commerce business had eclipsed traditional catalog order and phone center operations in 2005, necessitating a higher level of computing power and reliability for the outdoor retailer. The Integrated Design Group, Inc. design study developed building concepts for the LEED certified data center, and proposed reliable 2N mechanical and electrical systems to be run at 140 watts per SF on a raised floor to support the company’s aggressive growth plans. The study was followed by the provision of full design and construction administration services.

The new, two-story, 18,000 SF data center design combines the highest technological standards with traditional architectural elements at this wooded site to enhance a new L.L. Bean operations campus. The ground floor contains MEP infrastructure, loading, storage, and workplace amenities. The second floor has raised floor containing the network operations center, strategy room, and access protected computer machine room. In keeping with sustainability and cost requirements, as well as the L.L. Bean aesthetic, the structure is clad in locally harvested cedar shingles. This project was granted LEED Silver Certification in April of 2009.
