Integrated Design Group was hired by the University of California at Santa Barbara to renovate and expand the existing data center in North Hall, near the center of the UCSB campus. Due to increasing needs, UCSB required the new Research Data Center to be flexible and scalable in order to provide the opportunity for future expansion when needed. The existing facility posed significant limitations on height, limiting both the depth of the raised floor and the overall height within the computer room.

The renovation and expansion of this existing critical data center containing enterprise computing and all campus network connections transformed an outdated facility into one with nearly double the raised floor space (up to 5,000 SF) and one that is able to support the latest in high performance computing. The virtually new data center is served by re-designed and updated mechanical and electrical systems that were installed while the existing facility, with all campus links, remained operational.
