Tufts University | TAB Data Center | Somerville, Massachusetts

Integrated Design Group worked with the Tufts University’s Information Technology Group and Facilities Engineering to design a phased architectural, mechanical, and electrical upgrade to the TAB Data Center. The project was based on Integrated Design Group’s prior assessment of the existing data center and its ancillary support spaces within Tufts facility, a former junior high school now converted to a multi-functional office/classroom/meeting/day-care facility. The project was prompted by a desire to make cooling and electrical systems redundant as the data center grows. The TAB DC is the primary data center for Tufts University housing not only production systems run both by UIT and by other Tufts clients, but also serves at the Tufts main data communications and networking site. In this capacity, TAB DC acts as a critical hub for providing connectivity to the Boston and Grafton campuses, to multiple Internet Service Providers and to a central node on Tufts fiber ring.
