Data Center Campus Is Trend-setter in Ashburn’s Famed Data Center Alley

Digital Realty | Digital Loudoun Plaza Master Plan | Ashburn, Virginia

Digital Realty engaged Integrated Design Group to provide master planning services for a new data center campus in Northern Virginia. The corporate vision is to provide the greatest number of Turn-key Data Centers™ using very repeatable, efficient and flexible modules. Through negotiations with the County, a high level of design and finish was paid to the facades facing the streets in exchange to double the FAR, establish parking requirements and to opt out of the existing proffers. The resulting design includes four two story buildings in a park-like setting housing data centers in accordance with the Digital Realty POD Architecture™ standards. The buildings are organized with all customer amenities and entrances at the perimeter and all service and equipment yards facing the parcel center. A variety materials and textures reduce the scale, add visual appeal and represent the brand. All utilities including a new on-site utility substation was part of the plan. An on-site substation with (3) 84 MVA transformers and (3) 34.5 kV bus sections was provided. The building was designed so that each individual client could choose their preferred cooling option. Ultimately there was a mix of RTUs and Liebert DSE systems.
