Partners HealthCare | Data Center | Boston, MA
Partners HealthCare, adjacent to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, housed its data center in a 30-year old garage with space shared by accounting and record keeping. The data center served as a vital and integral component for Partners HealthCare system, allowing for instant retrieval of medical records. Security, reliability, ease of maintenance, and system upgrades became fundamental issues. An Integrated Design Group feasibility study found upgrading the existing facility too costly, and a relocation evaluation was determined to be the best route for the data center.
Two existing data center facilities were evaluated by Integrated Design Group to meet the needs of the Partners’ program and data center requirements at its Needham, MA site. The resulting data center provides redundant 3N/2 infrastructure with dual path distribution to equipment. The total system capacity is 1,400kW, with future expansion to 1,800kW. A diesel generator plan consisting of three 2,000kW generators, with paralleling switchgear, provided backup power.
